Puyallup Online Academy

Welcome to the Home of the Eagles!

At Puyallup Online Academy (POA) we provide a dynamic, flexible learning environment tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners in grades 6-12. Unlike the traditional school setting, our online platform empowers students to thrive in a way that suits their individual strengths and circumstances.

Who Might Benefit Most from Online Learning?

  • Self-Motivated Learners: Students who take initiative and enjoy setting their own pace excel in our flexible structure.

  • Independent Thinkers: If your student enjoys working independently and diving deep into subjects that interest them, they'll find the perfect balance of guidance and autonomy here.

  • Students with Unique Schedules: Whether your child is pursuing athletic, artistic, or other extracurricular passions, our adaptable schedule allows them to balance academics and their goals seamlessly.

Our Objective

POA's primary objective is to offer an alternative learning environment for students and families seeking an experience beyond our traditional brick and mortar buildings. In this setting, we provide academic courses, virtual and in-person study halls, flexibility, autonomy, and opportunities for student independence, all while fostering social engagement in various activities for students and their families.

Want to Enroll?

  • Current Puyallup School District Students: Enrollment for current students is closed. However, students who have unique circumstances requiring consideration should speak with your school counselor. Counselors can submit referrals as appropriate. All referrals will be reviewed by the PDL team to determine if space and support capacity are available. Families will be contacted if enrollment can move forward.

  • New Students: New student enrollment for this program is currently closed.  We will begin reviewing the PDL pre-enrollment survey and new student enrollment applications for the 2nd semester, beginning Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Families who wish to complete this process now will have their submissions held contacted in mid-January with the next steps.
    • New In-District Students: Visit the Puyallup School District Registration webpage for new student enrollment steps.
    • New Out-of-District FamiliesComplete the PDL pre-enrollment survey. After reviewing the survey, the PDL team will then determine whether they can serve the student. If approved, enrollment documents will be sent electronically.

Student Support Schedule

PDL students can work on their online classes independently from home. When questions or challenges arise, students are welcome to make use of the student support opportunities listed below. Our teachers want to support each student as needed. The only required attendance is the Eagle Advisory Meeting on Wednesday.

Resources and Information

Alternative Learning Experience (ALE)

Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) programs give students the flexibility to learn in a non-traditional setting.

The state requires that students in an ALE program demonstrate engagement by working diligently on their courses and make weekly reciprocal contact which occurs through weekly attendance.

Attendance Laws

While students have the ability to do most of their schoolwork at home to demonstrate progress, attendance is still a state requirement.  After the second unexcused absence, state law requires that the school have a conference with the parent or guardian and the student to discuss the barriers to school attendance (State Compulsory Attendance Law, Section 28A.225.RCW).

We are committed to helping all students be successful. We are asking for your help so that we are meeting the state requirements for our ALE program and meeting the needs of all our students.
